Having been selected unanimously at the last meeting to attend the unveiling of the Geddington Village Sign I made my way to the piece of green at the junction of Queen Street and the A43 at 3pm on Sunday 20th July.
Some of you will remember that we gave £150 to this project a couple of years ago and our invitation was in recognition of that donation and our contribution to village life. Brigade Majors Doran and Brown were once again contributing, by assisting the local constabulary with traffic and crowd control.
His Grace the Duke of Buccleuch KBE gave a short speech in which he commented that villages like Geddington have something in their community spirit that is the envy of people living in towns and cities. He then commended the efforts of the members of the WI, cut the ceremonial ribbon and removed the tablecloth from the sign.
The sign is a representation of some of the key features of the village and includes symbols around the edge identifying many of our organisations. I recommend that you go and have a look at it for yourself and so won’t give them all away but the GVFB logo is there and very good it looks.
We then went to the Village Hall for tea and home made cakes. It’s a tough job but someone had to do it.
The sign is an excellent addition to our Village and we congratulate the WI on its realisation.
