It’s 1982 and the Paymaster General is worried about the extravagant cost of the recent trip to Duxford. So why not ask each of the members for a fiver?

Dear Fireman,
I thank you for your attendance and support of our entry into
the Duxford competition. As you are aware this was most successful
with a "Highly Commended" ( 4th position) from 67 entrants.
Unfortunately the costs involved for transport were rather
excessive and due to a misunderstanding of literature the expenses
return from The Duxford organisers did not quite reach the expected
£50 (4 gals of petrol, which had to be collected from a local garage
at possible l gal distance).
Your advised agreement to defray costs originally estimated is
greatly appreciated and your remittance in the sum of £5 for settlement
of account is awaited please.
In view of the shortfall on income to expenditure, without
considering beer costs, following the bold lead of Firemam Hall all
members and families obtained free entrance and therefore if you could
possibly disgorge further monies as a docation to costs the brigade
may stay in the black.
Thank you for your help and looking forward to your donation to clear.
Yours sincerely
Paymaster-General
